HELIAUS (tHErmaL vIsion Augmented awarenesS)

 

Duration: 3 years (Industry PhD), full-time. 2-3 PhD positions

Scholarship: €24,000 per annum stipend plus PhD fees

Start date: May-December 2019

Supervisors: Prof. Peter Corcoran (Electronic Engineering) & Prof. Chris Dainty (Industry Mentor)

 

Project description: Research activity will focus on development of new computational and cognitive algorithms for Long-Wave Infrared (LWIR) imaging using a new generation of low-cost microbollometer sensors. Research is closely aligned with emerging technology roadmaps for European and US Industry in both the automotive and consumer sectors. Successful candidates will work closely with Engineering teams from Xperi, a World-Leading supplier of Imaging solutions for automotive and consumer markets. These positions will suit highly-motivated candidates with prior research experience and publications who are keen to complete a PhD in a shorter timeframe working on industry-focused research topics.

Relevant research experience includes: Advanced Deep Learning techniques; Hybrid Visible/NIR/LWIR Optics & Imaging; Multi-frame Imaging Algorithms; LWIR/Thermal Imaging Algorithms; Advanced NIR/LWIR Facial Models; Hybrid Visible/NIR/LWIR Imaging Pipelines.

Entry Requirements: Research Masters preferred but First-Class Primary Degree with suitable industry or project experience may be suitable.

 

Expected start date: from May 2019; candidates will be considered on a rolling basis during 2019.
