Basic Function of the post:
Increasing the scientific knowledge concerning the properties of fish proteins and oils has resulted in fish processing by-products with potential for development into numerous value added ingredients and products. The role of the successful candidate is to identify possibilities for improving recovery and utilisation of fish by-products generated during processing. Protein and oil measurements, free and total amino acid analysis, product development and bioassay trials will be performed in line with the objectives of the study. The successful candidate will help to prepare data for reports using statistical analysis on obtained laboratory results and will carry out literature and market research reviews concerning applications and relevant legislation regarding by-product utilisation.
Duties & Responsibilities specific to this project:
• Draft a literature review concerning by-product utilisation for biostimulant use.
• Extract and characterise source materials, extracts and develop novel products.
• Perform bio-assays in line with the project objectives.
• Evaluate potential applications for plant protection and/or feed use.

• PhD in industrial microbiology, chemistry, food science or related discipline.
• Relevant research experience not to exceed 3 years’ post-PhD.
• Experience in product development.
• Evidence of teamwork and collaboration with relevant partners.
