The Department Biomedicine is one of the leading Life Science Research Departments of the University of Basel, which is active in both basic and applied research. The Research Assistant will join the Developmental Genetics Research Group that studies the signalling interactions and molecular mechanisms controlling the progenitor and stem cells that give rise to organs and tissues in embryos. The research combines state-of-the art genetic and molecular technology such as CRISPR/Cas9 genome-editing of mouse ES cells with genome-wide approaches using mouse embryos to study the gene regulatory networks controlling organ and tissue development.

Your position

The main responsibilities of the position include:

Active participation in the ongoing research together with PhD students and postdoctoral fellows. This involves the isolation and analysis of embryos and organs from genetically altered mice. For molecular analysis, advanced genome-wide research tools such as transcriptome, epigenetic and chromatin analysis are combined with cell biology and molecular embryology. In addition to creative research in a stimulating environment, the position also includes lab and mouse colony management duties.

Your profile

Applicants should have completed an apprenticeship as molecular biology research technician (Laborant/in) and/or hold a BSc or MSc in molecular life sciences. Applicants must have significant working expertise in molecular biology and at least one of the following fields: genetic manipulation of mouse ES cells or mouse genetics/embryology. Applicants holding certification for animal experimentation (CH: LTK1 or FELASA) will be given preference. The working language is English; however, knowledge of German is an advantage.

We offer you

A stimulating research environment in an internationally renowned research team at the University of Basel. On the job training will be provided as required. The group is located in one of the flagship Research Institutes at the Department of Biomedicine that is equipped with state-of-the-art research facilities. The position also provides excellent training and career development opportunities.

The group is well funded by both SNF and ERC and its basic research projects are relevant to biomedicine and tissue engineering. For more information, please go to: http://www.devgenbasel.com

The University of Basel is an equal opportunity employer that offers competitive salaries and a very attractive work environment.
