Scholars at Risk Europe (SAR Europe), hosted by the Maynooth University Social Sciences Institute (MUSSI) Institute, Maynooth University, Ireland, is the European office of the global Scholars at Risk network (SAR). SAR is an international network of over 500 higher education institutions in 40 countries, whose mission is to protect scholars and promote academic freedom. SAR meets its mission through three core activity areas: protection (casework or direct assistance to at-risk scholars); advocacy (campaigns for individuals and to promote academic freedom); and research and learning (publications, conferences, workshops and trainings). Further information is available at www.scholarsatrisk.org.

SAR Europe coordinates with European partners and SAR national sections to promote SAR’s mission in Europe. SAR Europe is seeking a Programme Manager for the day-to-day management, under the supervision of the Director of SAR Europe, of the new EU-funded InSPIREurope project, including its day-to-day coordination, implementation, monitoring and reporting. In addition, the Programme Manager will dedicate a portion of their time to the core activities of the SAR Europe office outside of the InSPIREurope project.

InSPIREurope is a new 10-partner project coordinated by SAR Europe at Maynooth University, with partners in nine European countries, and funded under the Marie Sklodowska Curie Actions. The project will facilitate trans-national co-operation between European and national initiatives and programmes in support of researchers at risk. “Researchers at risk” refers to researchers who are or have experienced risk in their countries of origin due to discrimination, persecution, suffering and/or violence, and are seeking or have recently found refuge in Europe.
