Postdoc - HT Screening on Therapeutic Target for Poly-Glutamine Diseases (f/m/d)

Your mission

Poly-glutamine disorders, such as Huntingtons disease, are caused by poly-glutamine expansions and results in progressive neurodegeneration and ultimately in the death of patients. Although no established treatment is available to cure the disease, clinical trials are underway to achieve this goal.

The project builds on a well established collaboration with researchers at the RWTH Aachen, which have identified a methyltransferase as novel drug target against poly-glutamin diseases. Together, we recently received funding via the BMBF call "target validation" to perform a high-throughput screening campaign to identify inhibitors of this enzyme. Towards this goal, we have already finished a number of pilot studies. Performing the screen will be a central aspect of the announced position and will be done with support and in close collaboration with other groups of the Chemical Biology Initiative of the Helmholtz Zentrum München.

Cell-based models and model organisms are available to complement the screening campaign. These additional tools will be important to validate and further improve initial hits from the screen.

Your Qualification

You are an independent creative thinker driven by curiosityPhD degree in biology, biochemistry, biotechnology or equivalentExpertise in recombinant protein expressionIdeally, skills in enzymatic assays Expertise/strong interest in high-throughput screening campaignsProficient in written and spoken EnglishExperience in international interdisciplinary research teams

We are explicitly looking for team workers.

What we offer you

A challenging and versatile field of work providing you with the freedom to follow your instinct and be creative. With the help of extensive and goal-orientated professional development measures and career-building programmes we encourage you to grow as a person. To ensure a good work/life balance we assist you with flexible working hours, in-house health management, a nursery, and an “Elder Care” concept as well as other consultation and support options.
