ERD2020 Indonesia - Slides and recordings on research opportunities in Europe


Europe is open to the world! That is the strong message to over 5000 researchers who are taking part in this year's European Research Days Indonesia 2020 - ERD2020.

Opening Dialogue 'Stronger Together - The Importance of International Scientific Collaboration'

On 19 October, the European Research Days Indonesia were officially opened by H.E. Vincent Piket, Ambassador, EU Delegation to Indonesia & Brunei Darussalam and H.E. Prof Bambang Brodjonegoro, Indonesia's Minister for Research & Technology.

"Stronger Together: The Importance of International Scientific Collaboration During and After A Pandemic" was the focus of a high-level exchange between Prof Jean-Pierre Bourguignon, interim President of the European Research Council (ERC), Prof Sangkot Marzuki, President of the Indonesian Academy of Sciences, and Dr Teguh Rahardjo, Executive Director of DIPI.

Sharing Session: 'The World is My Lab: How I am Building My International Research Career'

International research collaboration and mobility is an essential element of pushing the boundaries of knowledge and successful career advancement. In our panel discussion 'The World is my Lab - How I am building my international reseacrh career', Indonesia early-career researchers shared their international career path and how they are navigating the challenges of the current pandemic.This session was chaired by Dr. Berry Juliandi, General Secretary of Indonesian Young Academy of Sciences (ALMI)

Speakers:

Dr Muhammad Hamidullah (1.35 MB) , recipient of Marie Sklodowska Curie Actions (MSCA) Individual Fellowship Grant which he was awarded in 2018. Hamid obtained his PhD degree from La Sapienza University of Rome, Italy.

Dr Novi Quadrianto received his PhD in Machine Learning from the Australian National University (ANU), Canberra, Australia in 2012. He earned his BEng degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering at Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore. He joined the University of Sussex (UK) as a Lecturer in February 2014. Novi was awarded a highly prestigious European Research Council (ERC) Starting Grant in 2019.

Dr Tatas Brotosudarmo received his PhD in Molecular and Cellular Biology from the University of Glasgow, UK. He is a leading researcher of photosynthesis pigments in Indonesia. Tatas has been awarded the prestigious Georg Forster Research Fellowship from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation in Germany.

Dr Dwinita Larasati (26.13 MB) is an Indonesian industrial designer and cartoonist. She is a lecturer in industrial design at the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB). Tita studied at the Bandung Institute of Technology in Bandung and earned a master's degree from the Design Academy Eindhoven (NL) and a doctorate from the Delft University of Technology (NL) in 2007.

 

Research Partners in Focus: GERMANY

Christian Rabl of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) Regional Office in Jakarta, provided the participants with detailed information on the opportunities for researchers of all disciplines interested in research and collaboration opportunities in Germany.

Research Partners in Focus: AUSTRIA

While there may not be any kangaroos living in Austria, what this European country has on offer are plenty of opportunities for research career advancement for international researchers! The interactive session 'Research Opportunities in Austria' was lead by Dr Dietmar Haltrich of the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna who also zoomed in on the opportunities in the framework of ASEA-Uninet: the ASEAN European Academic University Network.

Research Partners in Focus: FRANCE

With a total of 63 Nobel Prizes and 16 Field medals, France is a country recognised for the excellence of its scientific research. Not only does France rank sixth for its world share of scientific publications and fourth in the European patent system, it is also the third beneficiary country of the contributions allocated by the European Commission through the Horizon 2020 framework programme for research and innovation.

Two expert speakers introduced the French research landscape and gave practical advive for our participants how they can participate in research & innovation in France.

Boost Your Research Career in Europe - Funded PhD and Postdoc Opportunities with MSCA

Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) offer funding for PhD students and Postdoctoral researchers to carry out research across Europe. They are part of the European Commission’s current Framework Programme Horizon 2020 (soon to be succeeded by Horizon Europe) and are the main EU programme for doctoral training and postdoctoral research.

MSCA funding for PhD students is offered within university partnerships called Innovative Training Networks (ITN) or MSCA Cofund schemes. MSCA funding for Postdoctoral researchers is offered in the framework of the Individual Fellowship Scheme which is open to applicants of all disciplines and all nationalities.

This webinar is a must for all early career researchers seeking to understand the process of publishing their work in a peer-reviewed journal. Dr Victoria Babbit, Director of Researcher Development and Outreach at Taylor & Francis gives precise, hands-on advice on how to structure your manuscript, how to deal with reviewer comments and how to navigate the complex publishing landscape.

Horizon 2020-funded Green Deal Call

On 18 October, the European Commission has launched a €1 billion call for research and innovation projects that respond to the climate crisis.The deadline for submission for the Horizon 2020-funded European Green Deal Call is 26 January 2021 with selected projects expected to start in autumn 2021.

The Green Deal Call aims for clear, discernible results in the short to medium-term, but with a perspective of long-term change. The Green Deal Call is open to participation from research entities anywhere in the world. Please note that Call LC-GD-1-1-2020 explicitly invites participation from Indonesian research entities.

Marco Recchioni, Senior Project Adviser, EASME, European Commission, Brussels presented an intrduction pto the European Green Deal including thematic focus areas, eligibility criteria and partner finding tools.
