Recruiting 15 ESRs to build the new generation of experts in the field of Enhanceropathies

15 positions are available for a 3-year PhD program at institutions across Europe. Positions are funded by the new Marie Sklodowska-Curie Innovative Training Network (ITN) ENHPATHY. Candidates with bioinformatics, genomics and/or molecular and cellular biology backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

ENHPATHY is a multidisciplinary science consortium regrouping 12 academic and 3 non-academic European organisations in the continuum of basic, translational and clinical research on enhancers and associated diseases.

In genetics, enhancers are short regions of DNA that can be bound by proteins to increase the likelihood that transcription of a particular gene will occur. If mutations within coding genes have traditionally been considered the major genetic cause of human disease, it is becoming increasingly clear that the genetic, structural and/or epigenetic disruption of enhancers and enhancer landscapes represent major etiological factors in numerous human diseases (i.e. enhanceropathies), ranging from rare congenital disorders to common diseases associated with ageing (e.g. cancer, diabetes). Although changes in enhancer activity are predicted to have broad pathological and therapeutic implications, there is a limited mechanistic understanding of human enhanceropathies. ENHPATHY aims to increase scientific knowledge and train the new generation of researcher on the molecular basis of human enhanceropathies to open new diagnostic and therapeutic avenues for patients

Eligibility criteria:

  1. Applicants can be of any nationality.

  2. They must fulfill the mobility rule, i.e. have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in the country of the host organization for no more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately before the recruitment date.

  3. They must also fulfill the Early Stage Researchers (ESRs) rule, i.e. be within their first four years (full-time equivalent research experience) of their research careers at the date of recruitment by the host organization and have not been awarded a doctoral degree.

  4. They must hold a Master’s degree (MSc) in biology, biochemistry, bioinformatics, biophysics, biotechnology, medicine or any other related discipline.

  5. A high proficiency in spoken and written English is required.

Recruitment process:

  1. All applications will be made using the form published on the ENHPATHY’s website from March 15 until April 16, 2020. (https://www.enhpathy.eu/recruitment/).

  2. They should include a cover letter, a CV and contact information of two referees.

  3. A pre-selection list of 30 candidates will be made by the end of April 2020.

  4. Pre-selected candidates will be invited to contact at least 3 potential supervisors by either visiting the host institutions or by video conference (May-June 2020).

  5. All ESR will be selected by July 2020 and are expected to start between September and December 2020
