Symposium jointly organised by Kobe University and the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB), in cooperation with the University of Kent

The 11th Anniversary Symposium is a high-level policy and scientific event, focused on the latest developments in climate research and climate policies in the EU and Japan

Following on the signature of the major EU-Japan Green Alliance agreement in May, and the publication of the ambitious EU agenda on Climate and coming 10 days before the COP 26 Conference in Glasgow, this Symposium reflects the leading role of the EU and Japan in the implementation of a global zero-carbon agenda. It will allow in-depth exchanges on the policies and latest research in the EU and Japan in the interconnected fields of climate economics, technological innovations and SSH.

It follows on the message of DG RTD Director General Jean-Eric Paquet at the last symposium, who stressed the importance of mobilizing the European scientific Community to work with the Japan, particularly in the climate area. It will also update participants on the priorities and funding mechanisms currently discussed between the Commission and the Japanese government and JST for joint funding, which will include Climate research

The event will be a hybrid in-person/virtual format, allowing for open access and interactive participation for participants in Europe and Japan. Sessions will also be available for consultation on a web archive.
